Continental/English breakfast - at home !!

Have been meaning to do this for a long time - prepare a proper continental/english breakfast at home..
Today seemed a perfect time being a Sunday.. All the ingredients however, had to be sourced yesterday in prep for this .. :-)

Took 20-25 mins to prepare .. but it was amazing and very filling - a proper lazy bfast !!

This is what we had :

- Vanilla and Cinnamon French toast
- Scrambled eggs
- Baked beans in Tomato sauce
- Chicken sausages
- Bacon
- Cold coffee

Here is a really short list of prep steps :

Toast - Break three eggs, add Sugar, salt, vanilla essence, a couple of tablespoons of milk and ground cinnamon powder. Whisk all above to a nice mixture. Dip bread pieces and lightly pan fry with a tiny bit of vegetable oil.

Eggs - A teaspoon of olive/vegetable oil. chopped onions, green chillies, salt, ground pepper. Fry a little, break two eggs and 'scramble'.

Baked beans - Pick a tin of sil baked beans and lightly sautee them with onion, green chillies and a little oregano.

Sausages and Bacon - Just get some good quality ones and thaw them and cut into small pieces and just stir fry them till they are crisp on the outside.

Cold coffee - No brainer. Cold milk, Sugar, Ice and Nescafe ! :-)

You can add some fresh fruits to the menu to give you that lightness to cut off all the proteins, carbs and fat from the above listed items .. Should add that next time ..

Benjarong Again - with Wifey!

Its six months since and one more round of Citibank Restaurant Week and one more chance to seize the opportunity to taste some high quality authentic food at some of the top restaurants in town.

Since the last time Nikita was not in town, and she loves Thai food, we opted for Benjarong - again!
Booked for a 7:30pm Sunday evening for a relaxed and extended dinner and it was truly enjoyable as always. The best part of such events is that being light eaters - the food is almost always more than filling, while we get to taste a whole lot of variety, which otherwise at such places is not possible for a similar price.

The meal costs 900+tax and generally amounts to ~2500/- for 2 with a couple of soft drinks.

Well we ordered as many different types from the choices that we had to be able to sample more dishes.

While we waited for the food to arrive, the usual platter with crunchy lettuce leaves with the host of condiments to make yourselves tiny rolls out of arrived and we had fun trying out different combinations of fillings ..

I had the Prawns Tom Kha soup while Nikita had the Mushroom Tom Yum soup. The Tom Kha has a smooth creamy texture because of the coconut milk in it with the delicate flavoring of basil and lemongrass and galangal. The prawns were amazingly soft and just melted in your mouth. This first dish livened things up and set the bar for expectations of the things to come.

For starters, we sampled :
- Corn fritters and
- The light and crunchy spring rolls

- Grilled fish on a stick and
- My favorite and specialty of this place - chicken in pandanus leaves.

There were also the raw mango(below) and three-mushroom(left) salads. With a fresh lemon, coriander and red chilli dressing, it was refreshing..

Now for the main course we had two types of noodles, egg fried rice and jasmine rice - thankfully in small helpings, but we still could not get through all of them ..
The main dishes were fish in hot chilli basil sauce, mushroom and chicken, chilli potatoes and the classic prawns Thai green curry. All of them were fantastic, especially the green curry. Wow!! it was amazing ..

Now after all the above, we were seriously stuffed, but there still was dessert. We asked for really tiny portions, but they were as tiny when they arrived.

We had a jackfruit delight - candied jackfruit, with vanilla ice cream and maybe some coconut milk(?) and the lemongrass ice-cream.

The later is very unique, as I have never had anything sweet with lemongrass, since in most places it is synonymous with savory dishes .

Tucked up in a nice little corner with all the wonderful food being very presented with utmost care, it was an evening well spent !!
